เรื่องที่ 3 การถามและการบอกทิศทาง (Asking and Giving Direction)

1. การถามทิศทางเพื่อการเดินทาง
การถามหาทิศทางเพื่อการเดินทางที่นิยมใชกัน มีดังตอไปนี้
          1. ใชคําถามตรงไปตรงมาที่ขึ้นตนประโยคคําถามดวยใช “Where, How, Which
(Direct Questions)
- Excuse me. Which is the best way to the post office?
- Excuse me. Where is the post office?
- Excuse me. How can I go to the post office?
          2. ใชคําถามโดยใช Indirect Questions ซึ่งเปนคําถามที่ฟงแลวสุภาพ เชน
- Excuse me. Would you please tell me where the Grand Palace is?
- Excuse me. Do you know where the National Museum is?

Directions : การบอกทิศทาง มี 9 วิธี
1. ประโยคคําสั่ง (Imperative) ที่นิยมใชในการบอกทิศทาง ไดแก
- Cross over the road = ขามถนน
- Cross the main road = ขามถนนใหญ
- Turn left/right = เลี้ยวซาย/ขวา
- Take the third turning on the right =เลี้ยวขวาแยกที่ 3/เลี้ยงขวาครั้งที่ 3
- Drive straight on =ขับตรงไป
2. การเดินทางดวยยานพาหนะตาง ๆ นิยมพูดดังนี้
- Take the bus number 80.
- Change the bus/train at ……………เปลี่ยนรถเมล/รถไฟ
- Get out at the next station/bus. = ลงที่สถานี/ปายขางหนา
- Take the next train/bus =ลงที่สถานีขางหนา
3. แนะนําวา ไมควรทําใชDo not + V1+ o.
- Do not cross the road. = อยาขามถนน
- Do not take this road. = อยาไปตามถนนสายนี้
- Do not take the third turning = หามเลี้ยว ตรงหัวเลี้ยวที่ 3
4. เมื่อตองการเตือนใหใชรูปประโยค ดังนี้
- Be sure to take the correct = จงมั่นใจวาเดินตามถนนสายที่ถูกตอง
- Be careful not to take the first turning = ระวังเลี้ยวตรงเลี้ยวแรก
5. ใชประโยคเงื่อนไขขึ้นตนประโยคดวย“If”
- If you walk about ten metres from here, you will see ____________.
(ถาคุณเดินไปประมาณ 10 เมตร จากตรงนี้ คุณจะเห็น______________)
- If you turn left, you will meet ________.
(ถาคุณเลี้ยวซาย คุณจะพบ __________)
6. บอกใหตรงไปเรื่อย ๆ ในทิศทางเดิมโดยยังไมเปลี่ยนทิศทางจะใชPreposition on ตามหลังกริยา (Verb)ดังนี้
Keep on ………….. Carry on ……………..
Walk on …………. Drive on ……………. Stay on ………..
- Keep on driving along this road.
7. ถาบอกบงชี้ทิศทางไปในทิศทางเดียวกันหรือสื่อความหมายวา อยูขางหนา ใหใชคําวา “ahead”และ“Straight”ดังนี้
- The Grand Palace is ahead of you. (พระราชวังอยูขางหนาคุณ)
- The National Museum is straight ahead(หอสมุดแหงชาติอยูขางหนา) แตถาบอกใหเดินตรงไป พูดวา
- Walk straight to the intersection.
- Go straight ahead of ……(2 kilometres) = เดินตรงไปขางหนา........ (2กิโลเมตร)
- Keep going straight ahead. = เดินตรงไปเรื่อย ๆ
- Go straight until you come to ………. (the traffic lights)
- Walk straight as far as the bridge (เดินไปจนถึงสะพาน)
8. ถาบอกใหเลี้ยวหรือเปลี่ยนเสนทางใหพูดดังนี้
- Turn left/right –เลี้ยวซาย/ขวา
- Turn to the left –เลี้ยวซาย
- Take the street that ……….(goes up the hill) = เดินไปตามถนนที่ขึ้นไปบนเนิน
9. บอกที่ตั้งของสถานที่หรือสิ่งนั้น ๆ เชน
- It’s next to (ติดกับ) ……………….. (a school, a temple)
- It’s a (pared(ลาดยาง),gravel (โรยกรวด), dead – end (ตัน))

**- It’s about ………………. minute’s walk (ride) from here. (ten/fifteen)
**- It’s ……………… from here. (two meters)
*** หมายเหตุ
1. คําถามที่ขึ้นตนดวย How long…… ใหตอบเปนระยะเวลา เชน
A : How long can I get there?
B : It’s not far from here. It’s five minute’s drive (walk)
2. คําถามที่ขึ้นตนดวย How far……ใหตอบดวยระยะทาง เชน
A : How far can I get there?
B : It’s about 2 kilometers from here.
3. คําศัพทสํานวนที่ควรทราบ
- intersection/crossroads = สี่แยก
- Junction = สามแยก
- Traffic lights = ไฟจราจร
- at the end of the road = สุดถนน
- on your right/left = ขางขวา/ขางซายของคุณ
- next to school = ติดกับโรงเรียน
- just before school = กอนถึงโรงเรียน
- you can catch/take a taxi. It will take you there in 10 minutes. = คุณสามารถไปไดดวย Taxiและจะพาคุณไปที่นั้นใน 10 นาที
- cross over the road =เดินขามถนน
- walk along the road =เดินตรงไป
- walk straight on = เดินตรงไป
- go straight on =เดินตรงไป
- go pass the school =เดินผานโรงเรียน
